The NOLA Art House's mission is to provide affordable communal housing for artists living in New Orleans. The house itself is an antebellum mansion located at 1614 Esplanade avenue in the historic Treme neighborhood in New Orleans.
Jaohn Orgon Founded the space in 2005 to provide a facility that would unite professional artists with one another, who could in turn could exchange ideas and feedback, or collaborate with each other on projects. The house is divided into many private rooms that double as studio work spaces. Additionally, the house's parlours, expansive hallways and back yard provide space for art shows, collaborations, events and installations.
The address is most well known for the multi story interactive tree house installation that spans between two trees in the back yard. It is the the brainchild of Scott Pterodactyl, long time art house resident, and various members of the loose-knit group of artists known as Home-made parachutes. The tree house was built almost entirely out of salvage materials that were ubiquitous in the years after Hurricane Katrina.
